Green Initiatives in Fashion and Beauty: Add a Little Green to Your Wardrobe This Season!

Green Initiatives in Fashion and Beauty

There is no doubt that the world is spinning through a whirlwind of Green Initiatives. Retail organizations and fashion designers cannot ignore the "go green" drives and trends towards sustainability. Although I am not 100% natural or 100% green, I am discovering ways to contribute that I hadn't considered before. Instead of venturing out of my budget or comfort zone, I researched ways that I can maintain my lifestyle while adding a little green, other than it being the most brilliant color in my wardrobe. If you're wondering how you can discover your green side; thumbs down to envy, check out my finds:

Buy Vintage: Vintage is a great way for the average fashionista to join the green initiative. While trendy and in high demand, vintage clothes are unique pieces of recycled fashion. Add a little green to your wardrobe this season!

Buy Organic: Organic denim does exist! Organic cotton is not just a seasonal fashion trend but rather an environmental choice. Nudie Jeans is a denim brand dedicated to using organic cotton exclusively and they salvage old denim. Learn More

Reusable Shopping Bags: Reusable shopping bags are the epitome of mixing the pleasure of shopping with doing something good for the environment. Ditch the plastic!

Recycle: When I think of recycling I think of sorting through garbage to separate the plastics from the trash. Although I recommend recycling to every household, I wanted to find a way in which I could contribute within my lifestyle interests of fashion and beauty. Recycling old denim is a great way for me to do just that! Did you know that you can donate your old denim to be recycled to make home insulation? Keeping families warm and helping them save on energy costs is a no-brainer. Check out the denim drive "Cotton. From Blue to Green." Learn More

Energy Efficiency at Home: There are companies out there that provide energy saving alternatives to materials you're already going to buy for your home remodeling project. Replacing your light bulbs with energy efficient light bulbs is the easiest way to go but if you're planning to build or remodel your home you may want to expand your green options. Energy One offers energy efficient replacement windows and siding leading to a substantial savings in home heating and cooling costs. This eco-friendly option is a great alternative. It's not a handbag but it just might get you one.  Learn More

Support "Green" Companies: One green company that I support is The Body Shop. If you haven't experienced The Body Shop, I invite you to skip on over to your local mall. From skin care and body products to cosmetics, this company has gone above and beyond to provide us with natural products. Although taking more of an ethical stance, Founder and Human Rights Activist Dame Anita Roddick had a great vision for this natural and ethical beauty products company. Learn More

Here are a few more companies in the beauty and fashion world that are leading the charge in caring for and protecting our environment:

Eco Fashion Week
Eco Fashion World: Eco Brands
American Eagle Outfitters
Aveda
Aubrey Organics
