I’m a fairly natural girl or at least I’d like to think so (smile). For me, going all natural is a process of educating myself of the health benefits or hazards of various ingredients as well as finding alternatives to foods and products that I want to eliminate.
I try to eat healthy foods; mostly fruits and vegetables, fish; tilapia specifically, and organic chicken. I prefer to skip the antibiotics and hormones; thank you. I choose not to take medications so I utilize ingredients in my food that provide natural sources of prevention like herbs, herbal teas, onions, garlic, and olive oil.
In addition, I've kicked chemical hair relaxers to the curb and I take a minimalist approach to makeup. I also try to stay away from fragrance and dye injected products. Fortunately and unfortunately, I have a chemical sensitivity to the smell of ingredients in various products like perfumes, cleaning products, sprays, etc., so I have to use products with minimal ingredients and virtually no scent.
While it all sounds good, the truth is there are certain products that are not natural or organic that I'm in-love with because of the results they give me. As my life transitions, I’m taking strides to feel better and be healthier, and one way of doing that is to eliminate unnecessary ingredients in anything that is consumed by my body and this takes effort.
I think there are definitely health benefits to being all natural but that does not mean that I’ll snarl at the thought of using synthetic or chemically enhanced products, it just means that I’ll be more aware of what I purchase and consume. The key for me is to take small steps and increase my knowledge in the process.
Before I go, I'll leave you with one question. How important is all natural?
Until next time!
