Ahh....bubbles. Nothing says clean like a thick, fluffy lather of bubbles and foam. More foam; more clean. It sounds good but that can't be further from the truth when it comes to hair. Shampoo manufacturers have begun to remove the sulfate and are opting to use alternative ingredients to get the job done. So what does that mean to you? Are you ready to venture off into the world of sulfate-free shampoos?
Naturals are demanding healthier choices when it comes to hair care and some companies are listening. What exactly is sulfate? Sulfate (Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate a.k.a SLS ), is a foaming agent used in shampoos, body wash, detergents, soaps, and even degreasing agents, such as cleaning products. The problem with sulfate is, it's a harsh ingredient that can strip your hair leaving it dull and lifeless. It contributes to moisture loss in hair, can cause color-treated hair to fade, and most importantly damage the hair follicles over time. There are also claims that sulfate is linked to health concerns, such as cancer and immune system damage, which may or may not be true. Whether true or not, I'd rather not risk it.
My goal is to transition to healthy hair one step at a time. Keeping in mind that I have to do what works best for my hair type regardless of what I may want for my hair, I decided to select a brand that uses more natural ingredients with no sulfates or make my own sulfate-free organic shampoo. Making my own organic shampoo seems to be a great option for me not only because it will be sulfate-free but also because it will not include other unnecessary chemicals and ingredients. Hope my hair loves it!
Wish me success!
See ya lata'
