A Lesson for Product Junkies

I'm not a hair product junkie! I promise! I raise my right hand and swear. I was excited about purchasing and trying the Aussie Moist hair conditioner not only because I use the shampoo but also because I've heard many great things about the conditioner in product reviews. What encouraged me to try it was the expectation of moisture. As you know, transitioning hair needs a lot of moisture and my hair loves, loves, loves it.

I've been transitioning from relaxed (texurized) hair to natural hair for 7 months now and my conditioner of choice has been the Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Replenishing Deep Conditioner. I have experienced very little breakage using this product and I have nothing but great things to say about it. I'm still questioning why I decided to try something new. While I didn't plan to stop using the Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner, I chose to give the Aussie Moist conditioner a try.

I prepped my hair with the Aussie Moist conditioner as a prepoo treatment. The consistency of the product is light and creamy but not rich if that makes sense. I then washed my hair as usual with the Aussie Moist shampoo one section at a time. After cleansing my scalp and hair, I used Aussie Moist to condition. I noticed right away that it wasn't providing the same slip that I usually get with the Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner, which makes detangling a breeze. As I began to detangle, my hair was not reacting favorably. Instead, it was snapping back as if it were in a game of tug-of-war. It was so bad, I had flashbacks of the movie Battle Los Angeles. I was the "bad" (bad meaning good) chick in the movie trying to save Los Angeles and the world from total destruction. Initially, I assumed I didn't arm myself with enough conditioner so I added more. No help! My hair sucked it up like water. The more I detangled the more hair loss I suffered. I ended up with the worst hair breakage that I've had since I began my transition 7 months ago. Bottom line; it didn't go so well.

My first lesson: I've stuck with the same hair care regimen for most of my transition because it works for my hair type with the exception of switching my shampoo (I'm considering switching back to Creme of Nature). There was no need to waste money and time trying this product when there was no true need to do so. My motto has always been the same; Simple and Uncomplicated. I think I'll stick with that. My second lesson: My hair loves oil and very creamy, rich products and I believe the downfall for me was that the Aussie Moist conditioner is more water-based to supply hydration and I could feel that in the consistency of the product. It could possibly make a good hydrating leave-in conditioner for my hair.

Product junkies, listen up! If you find something that works, stick with it. Your hair knows what your hair likes and it will be nice to you when you give it what it likes. In no way does my experience reflect how the Aussie Moist product will work for your hair. Many people have had great things to say about it. I suggest a review of the ingredients to determine if the ingredients are beneficial to your hair type. Ingredients are key.

See ya lata' and happy conditioning!
