Eyelash Extensions vs. Lash Growth Treatment
This....or that?
By now, my readers are aware that I'm an Eyelash Extensionist/Lash Artist, as well as an advocate for going natural. Going natural for me includes hair, nails, makeup, eyelashes and anything else that would otherwise yearn for cosmetic enhancement for the purpose of beautification.
Eyelash growth products have been hot news since 2009 with the FDA approval and launch of Latisse but false eyelashes have been a popular staple product for years since their creation in 1916 by American Film Director, D.W. Griffith. There is no doubt that false eyelashes are here to stay based on their long, rich history. In the past few years, eyelash extensions have made their way into our beauty closets by providing a more natural looking false eyelash that lasts longer. Up to 8 weeks longer!
This is accomplished by bonding one individual false lash to one individual natural lash. The initial application ranges from $150 to $600 with an average of $250-350 and can take 2 to 3 hours to apply. Touch ups to maintain your eyelash extensions average $75 per month.
I have enjoyed eyelash extensions and my clients love them but I have also experienced the joy of growing my own natural lashes so that I can flutter my lashes at the passerby without the hassle of application. I believe both are OK depending on your goal and budget. For me personally, I prefer my natural lashes. There are two products I use to maintain healthy, long lashes; an eyelash growth serum and a lengthening mascara. The eyelash growth serum that I use is an upcoming product from Lashhouse. I have tested the product for the past 6 months and based on the results I would recommend this product to anyone who is interested in growing longer lashes at an affordable price. I'll be sure to post a launch date soon or you can visit Lashhouse.com in the coming weeks for more information. Current eyelash growth serums on the market range in price from $50 to $300 per tube depending on the brand and ingredients with Latisse scoring the high end of the price range due to it being prescription-based with FDA approval. Most tubes last up to 2 months and is applied like liquid liner two times per day.
There are many eyelash growth serums on the market today and choosing one can be a challenge due to the wide range in price and ingredients. I recommend reading reviews to narrow down your options. Based on my experience it takes a minimum of 6 weeks to see results with most treatments to as long as 4 months to see optimum results. FYI: there's a trick to obtaining optimum results, which I'll share with you in a later post.
While both products will help to achieve the look of longer, fuller eyelashes, I would love to hear about your experience with eyelash extensions and/or lash growth serums. Although each experience and eyelash growth cycle is unique, your feedback may provide useful information for someone trying to decide between eyelash extensions and a lash growth treatment to achieve fuller, longer lashes.
Lata and flutter back!

I just started adding Silk Amino Acids to my mascara..just because I heard it's good for the lashes and because I had some which I use for my hair. Would you know anything about SAA's helping with eyelash thickening/growth?
